From Darkness To Light
|
One of the essential themes inherent in Masonry is the universal concept of moving from a state a darkness to a state of light or from a state of not knowing to a state of knowing. This would imply that knowledge is continualy acquired by the process of learning and that it is an ongoing or a life-long process.
Recollecting on your own life experiences, you may recall that as a child you first learned or became aware by those sensory stimuli that awakened your sense of sight, touch, hearing, and so forth. It was that inquisitive part of you that sought meaning; always uttering the proverbial question of a child, "Why?" As we grow older our inquisitive nature may turn to other queries of importance; we are always seeking to know the what and why or meaning of life. There may come a time - a certain point in life - that we begin to question the deeper, spiritual and philosophical nature of existence. It is at that point that many doors and paths will be opened to you. Freemasonry is one such path. In one way, Freemasonry constitutes, a depository of arcane, symbolic and allegorical truths. Not the truth, but rather those truths of which each individual must sovereignly embrace and find meaning. In this sense, Freemasonry may offer a distinctive platform for those engaged in the life-long pursuit of seeking knowledge (Gnosis). Thus, moving "from darkness to light" refers to the process of learning, whereby we become more knowledgeable, more enlightened and hopefully more tolerant. As time permits, we will add to our resource section compelling articles and files that we hope will whet your appetite. |
